Materials: Banana leaf
Made by a women's weaving cooperative in Uganda. Traditionally basket this shape were used to store dry food such as beans and also to serve matoke ( the Ugandan dish of steamed green bananas) which were laid on banana leaves . The pattern on each basket has been woven using Raffia or "buso " that comes for the raffia palm known as "Bibbo". Raffia is part of the newly shooting palm leaf that holds the leaf together before it opens
Many of the designs are traditional and passed down from generation to generation. The main structure of the basket is made from the stem of the banana leaf which has been cut into thin strips or " Obukedo'. They are dried coiled and bound to each one another using raffia wich cover the banana leaf stem and creates the design.
These unique pieces makes a wonderful gift, displaying fruits and vegetables. serving bread or adorning the wall. Comes with loop in the back for hanging on the wall.
