This hand-stamped cotton bag featuring a mask inspired by the Vai Tribe of Cape Mount County, Liberia, West Africa. Grand Cape Mount County is known for Lake Piso, Liberia’s largest natural lake, and its stunning Atlantic Ocean coastline. The county’s capital, Robertsport, is a historic coastal town celebrated for its cultural heritage and natural beauty.
Hand stamped batik are created by applying wax with a carved stamp to a solid color base cloth. The wax forms a resist and the cloth is then over dyed. This process may be done multiple times, resulting in the cloth having many colors and design motifs.
