Hand stamped batik created by applying wax with a carved stamp to a solid color base cloth. The wax forms a resist and the cloth is then over dyed. This process may be done multiple times, resulting in the cloth having many colors and design motifs.
This maks on this bag is from the Gola ethnic group of Liberia. They are among Liberia's oldest inhabitants and comes Bomi County wish is in the western part of Liberia. They are known for their skilled farmers. Gola is also the tribe of my grandfather on my father's side.
